More often than not we hear horror stories from online poker players about a players
pocket aces getting busted by trips, a straight, or two pair. What is going on with that?
I thought pocket aces was the best hand in poker? Pocket Rockets are the best starting
hand in texas hold em, not the best hand. Depending on how you play your aces can
determine whether or not you are racking chips towards you at the end of the hand. Many
players simply make the mistake of thinking that they will win the hand no matter what.
Especially in online poker rooms where the action is heavy, multiple callers can spell doom
for those AA.

Mistake #1 - Thinking your Pocket Aces are Invincible.
This is common with beginner players mostly, because they haven’t felt the pain of getting
their aces owned by some chump hand. In order to safeguard yourself from someone
drawing out on you, you need to make some aggressive bets to get the would be fish out
of the pot.

Mistake #2 - Trying to Slow Play your Aces.
This is the quickest way to a disappointing loss. Sure, it may have worked for you in
the past, but don’t count on it to be like that every time. It is crucial to play your aces
aggressively before the flop. If the online poker flop doesn’t hit for you and you think it
did for your opponent, bet harder. Chances are they have top pair or a flush draw, and it
would be best if they didn’t get much further than that.

Mistake #3 - Not Knowing when you are Beat.
Mistake number three comes into play when you have already made mistakes number
one and two. If you have slow played your aces and still think you can win but there are 4
spades on the board and you don’t hold one, you should stop to think why your opponent
just pushed all in. Nothing is worse than holding just a pair of aces after the river, and
you know your opponent has a better hand. This is when you have to face the facts and
let one go. Hopefully you didn’t get too involved in the betting, which can happen often in
online poker rooms.
Conclusion
Next time you peek at your cards and see two beautiful aces staring back at you what will
you do? Will you get flustered like an amateur? Or will you sit calmly waiting for your turn
to act so you can make a nice raise? The latter will yield you more profits in the long run.
So now that you can handle pocket aces, what about pocket kings?
