Super Bowl XLV will be the 45th
annual championship game and the 41st of the modern era
National Football League (NFL)
The game will be played on the 6th
February 2011 and, as usual, will pit the champions of the NFC
against the champions of the AFC.
The game will be played at the
home of the Dallas Cowboys who dominated the competition in the
early 1990s, winning five titles in that decade. This will be the
first Super Bowl to be held in the Dallas area but the third time it
has been held in Texas.
Troy Aikman, a three time winner
of the title with the Cowboys will assist with commentary on the
game for Fox Sports who broadcast the transmission this time out.
As ever, expect a huge global
television audience for the event. The Super Bowl has had a large
television audience in the U.S., and it is often the most watched
television program of the year with 80 to 90 million Americans
tuning in to the game at some point.
Globally, that
audience is thought to top 100 million making the most watched US
sports event. Only the UEFA Champions League Final and World Cup in
soccer can top that and not by much.
As well as making Super Bowl
Sunday a de facto holiday in the US many fans also tune to see the
size and scale of the entertainments on offer as much as the
football itself. These include the now legendary half-time show and
some of the most expensive commercial advertisements on TV.
Whoever makes it to Super Bowl XLV this
time around you can be sure that sports fans across the globe will be
glued to their screens for the ultimate grid iron action.
