I started my long quest for the 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana Sword with Black Scabbard after hearing about these types of unique swords at a dinner party that my husband and I went to.  The husband of our hostess was continually talking about these Japanese weapons and how great they were, having seen them at someone else's home recently. My husband is a history buff, loving to read up on all periods of history.  However, his favorite articles on ancient history come from the times when Japan and the Samurai warriors seemed to dominate the landscape. The crimson coloring of the handle was offset by a faux ivory background, and the sword's scabbard was black with some red fabric woven in as well. 

I waited in anticipation for the Big Day to arrive. I believe that I was more excited than my husband when I handed him the carefully wrapped package. His face showed the surprise and awe that I expected and his favorite birthday gift is now hanging in a place of honor right on his office wall, just as I supposed it would.
