The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi

·         Is the uniform used by the Jiu Jitsu practitioners that is similar to the Judogi, but it comes with a difference of tighter cuffs on the jackets and pants. This facilitates the fighter to face the opponent with less weight and it provide the benefit of a closer fit for grappling.

·         Gi wear that is worn in competitions has some eligibility standards and wearing a Gi is a necessity during training sessions.

·         The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is similar to a tae kown, judo Gi or a karate Gi to an untrained eye, but they are all different.

·         There are strict regulations on wearing Gis in tournaments.

·         Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis usually comes in white, black or blue. Lately with the growth and popularity of the sport, some bright colors are emerging like green, red, yellow and pink.

·         Most recognized Gi colors for tournaments are blue and white. Flashy colors may prove to be distraction on the field or during training sessions.

 

Types of Gi:

·         The single weave Gi is least durable and will provide the comfort of light weight and flexibility.

·         It is better to select double weave Gi for more durability and At the same time the double weave is more durable, but heavier and harder to maneuver.

·         There are some other kinds of weaves like hybrid, gold and platinum. The hybrid weave is in between the single weave and double weave and is a popular choice.

·         The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi, also known as the BJJ Kimono, which is the uniform BJJ practitioners wear during training.

 

The most famous man for the No Gi movement is of course Eddie Bravo. He is famous for his commentary on the UFC and KOTC and also for offered Royler Gracie in ADCC. Eddie Bravo believes that fighters who train with a Jiu Jitsu Gi are very prone to ground and pound because of their failure to train in No Gi. He has become famous worldwide for his rubber guard technique to defend against ground and pound in the guard in an MMA fight.
