Women EHF European Cup 2009 - To Start in February

A number of handball clubs are participating in the2008/09 Women’s EHF Cup 1/8 Final event to start from the first week of February this year.

The first three rounds for this event have already been held, which showed some exciting results, allowing 63 contestants to make it to the upcoming 1/8 Final round for the event. Uskudar B. S. K., HBC Bascharage, IK Savehof and Skovde HF scored some really great scores against their opponents, to make it to the next round from R1 Round. Round 2 of the European Handball Federation Cup saw more excitement with some of the best players making it to the next round.

These players included VfL Oldenburg from Germany and LC Bruhl Handball from Switzerland who played extremely well against their opponents. Round 3 was even fiercer than the first 2 rounds, with the teams competing extremely well against each other. The highest scoring handball club for Round 3 was Budapest Bank FTC from Hungary, which scored a total of 71:54 against Madeira Andebol SAD from Portugal.

The matches for Round 1/8 will start from 7 February 2009, with the first match to be held between Vfl Oldenburg from Germany vs. Rangers HK A/S from Denmark. Both the teams are real competitive ones, with Vfl Oldenburg scoring a total of 78 in Round 2, and Rangers HK A/S scoring a total of 75 in Round 2. The first match is definitely going to give a thrilling start to all the handball fans. The second match between both these teams will take place on 14 February 2009, which will be the deciding match as to who makes it to the next round of events in the European Cup for Women 2009. This match will be one of the best handball matches of this tournament.

HC Naisa-Nis will play against HC “Kuban” on the same dates too, with HC Naisa-Nis scoring 46 in Round 3 and HC “Kuban” scoring 57 in Round 2 against MKS "Zaglebie" Lubin and 73 in Round 3 against Uskudar B. S. K. Although both teams look like they are going to give a hard time to each other, chances are that HC “Kuban” will win this one by a great lead!

NP HC Rostov-Don will play against Issy les Moulineaux on 8 and 15 February 2009. Both teams have a good record in the previous rounds with NP HC Rostov-Don scoring 62 in Round 2 and 58 in Round 3 and Issy les Moulineaux coming forward with 56 from Round 2 and 57 from Round 3. Looks like NP HC Rostov-Don has a better performance so far in the initial rounds compared to Issy les Moulineaux, although Issy les Moulineaux does not look like a weak opponent at all for NP HC Rostov-Don with almost good handball results.

HCM Baia Mare will play against HC Leipzig on the 7th and 15th of February. HCM Baia Mare is already in the lead with 60 scores in Round 2 and 51 in Round 3, whereas HC Leipzig scored a 50 in Round 3. This will be a close one as both teams are equally good and will give each other a tough time.

Some other matches of the event are Byasen HE vs. SPR ASSECO BS Lublin, S.D. Itxako vs. Slagelse FH, Feherep Alcoa FKC vs. C.S. Rulmentul-Urban Brasov and HC Dinamo vs. Budapest Bank FTC. These teams will play the qualifying matches to decide the winning teams to go to the 1/4 final of the EHF European Cup.
