Whilst it is features like this that get all the attention, there are loads of smaller innovative touches which make the phone a pleasure to use on a daily basis...

In this article I am going to take a look at one of the neat features included in the HTC Sense UI package, called “Active LockScreen”. This is not as highly publicised as many of the phone’s other features, but it is innovative and useful during day to day use.

Active LockScreen – What Is It?

Active LockScreen basically allows users to access their most commonly used apps without having to unlock the screen of the phone. In order to do this, you simply drag the icon of the app you wish to open, into a circle at the centre of the lock screen.

For example, let’s say that you have just have just received a text message and you want to read it and possibly reply to it. You will be alerted to the fact that you have a new message by vibration and ringing, and there will also be a notification on the locked screen. Usually you would have to unlock the screen to open the messaging application, but with Active LockScreen you simply drag the messaging app icon into the circle and the app will open. You can then read and rely to the message, and when you exit the application the screen will be locked once again, automatically.

You can choose up to 4 applications to use with Active LockScreen, and these can then be found at the bottom of the locked screen once assigned. As you can see from the above example using a text messaging scenario, this can be a realtime saver. HTC has long had a policy to always aim for users to carry out tasks in the fewest steps possible. The HTC Sensation perfectly showcases this with its Active LockScreen feature.

The rest of the HTC Sense UI carries the same degree of innovation, and once you have got used to using them they can be very helpful during day to day usage. Features like this show just how innovative and powerful handsets such as the HTC Sensation really are. Whilst it is usually features like cameras, processors and screens which get the largest amount of coverage it is features like Active LockScreen which make a noticeable difference between other phones when you are actually using them.

The HTC Sensation and many other HTC handsets like the impressive new HTC Evo 3D currently have some great deals available, many of which offer the handset itself completely free of charge.
