With the advent of digital technology comes a whole new range of digital terrestrial channels. Also known as freeview,Digital TV Aerial Signals and How They Work and Why It Is So Important To Have A Good Working Signal Articles the really great thing about the new terrestrial television channels available today, is that they are free.

This can only be good news for most of us! In an age where we seem to be paying for what is in essence a lot of money for all sorts of digital TV channelplatforms, isn’t it nice to be able to get something for free? Of course nearly all the movie channels are pay channels, as are the dedicated sports channels, which come via satellite mainly. However there are still loads of great TV channels out there you can get with a  very cheap Freeview box .

So how do Digital Aerials work?

To start with the TV Aerial signals come from a local transmitter, which varies according to where you live and is placed normally to enable as many people to obtain as good a line of site as possible.

Whereas analogue TV signals transmit one channel onto one carrier, digital aerial transmissions can fit far more data into the one carrier, with at least 8 channels ale to be modulated onto the same amount of space, as the one analogue channel. With so much more bandwidth, come a whole new plethora of channels. These new digital platforms also include Dab as well, digital audio broadcasting, offering many more choices for radio stations and niche listening for us.

Digital Aerial transmissions transmit in a series of 0’s and 1’s. Your receiver, the freeview box, or dab radio, then translates these signals into a working picture, or sound and can even correct approximately errors in the data being received. This is why the pictures for digital are normally perfect.  This new technology however does require correct signals to work properly. It is vital to use benchmarked cable and TV or Dab radio aerials, most importantly correctly installed by a qualified aerial engineer to get the best and most reliable picture possible. After all, what is the point in spending loads of money on the latest plasma or flat screen TV, only to have the picture pixelating or freezing? With so many freeview and dab receivers to choose from, and nearly all TV’s manufactured now, having a built in freeview receiver, indeed one major electrical retailer announced that it no longer will sell non freeview TV’s any more, this is definitely the way of the future.

So how do you know that you are getting the right aerial installers for your job? They should be Confederation of aerial industries members, have a proven track record for installing in your area, for both Digital TV Aerials and Digital Radio Aerials where appropriate. Also make sure to see what companies use their services on a regular basis. These are often the people who know who to use.
