Servo Amplifiers and Servo Drives-An Overview

Servo-drive or the servo amplifier is a regenerative, SCR based, three phrased, 4-quadrant power amplifier which supplies proper power to the motor according to the command of a control voltage. The amplifiers soak up energy from the load as well as deliver energy to the load.

Servo-driveor the servo amplifier is a regenerative, SCR based, three phrased, 4-quadrant power amplifier which supplies proper power to the motor according to the command of a control voltage. The amplifiers soak up energy from the load as well as deliver energy to the load.

These devices areplaned to change the kinetic power of the merged motor load into electrical power while the motor is losing its speed. The servo amplifiers are both available in a brushless or brushed design according to the requirement of the specific application.

The output storage of this amplifier is basically an analog circuit. This circuit allows the current and voltage to adjust the motor to control velocity, position and torque. The micro processors of the servo drives allow the digital values to use through each division of the servo controller.

Work process of a servo amplifier:

Firstly, the servo drives receive a signal from any control system, and then amplify the signal through the servo amplifier. Next, it conveys the electric current to the servo motors to produce motion proportional to the command signal. The command signal then helps to get a desired position or torque. Sensors attached with the amplifiers inform the actual status of the motors to the servo drives.

The circuit of a servo amplifier shows a motor winding which is connected to two set of transistors. The transistors can direct positive or negative voltage to run the motor in the clockwise or counterclockwise way. The servo amplifiers are very useful in Pick and place automation process. As the pick and place automation system contains high speed, rodless slide machines, ball screw driven by servo drives and linear motor expertise for a low cost and medium speed solution.

What are the usages of servo-drives or servo amplifiers?

The servo drives or servo amplifiers are generally a particular electronic amplifier, which is used to control the electric servomechanisms. These drives supervise the feedback from the servomechanism, as well as adjust the feedback for the variation. The servo mechanisms are widely used in the industry infields like: factory automation, CNC machining, and robotics.

Besides, they are useful to provide motor feedback, which helps to guarantee the exactness of the commanded activity and also used to detect any unwanted motion.

Though many of the servo motors till now needs a specific servo drive or a servo amplifier for them but nowadays, there are many servo drives which are compatible with a wide range of motors.
