The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is another good addition to the range but the Nokia X7 offers a better all round performance particularly in the screen department where the AMOLED screen works superbly...

Previously we took a look at the new Xperia Ray handset from Sony Ericsson and compared it with the super Samsung Galaxy S2 and as you may well predict the all conquering Samsung device came out on top.  This time we thought we would give the model a fairer test by putting it against Nokias new smartphone the X7.Will the additional screen size on the Nokia prove a huge benefit or will the compact sizing and great resolution on the Xperia Ray see it outshine the X7.An area where both of these handsets seem very evenly matched is in the processor department where both handsets sport good quality sets of chips.  The Nokia X7 offers users a 680Mhz processor which is teamed up with a Broadcom BCM2727 graphics processing unit.  Together these not only provide the phone with gorgeous visuals but also a very fast general speed.  In addition to this the handset offers a respectable RAM memory of 256MB to complete a good if unspectacular engine room.  The Sony Ericsson device ups the ante a little in terms of processing power by offering a 1Ghz chip together with an Adreno 205 GPU.   The device relies upon 300MB of RAM but despite the slightly higher spec found on this model both handsets perform on the same level.  The Nokia X7 offers a large 4 inch display which is one of the main attractions of this model.  The Xperia Rays screen is is more modest at just 3.3 inches but the handset is attempting to appeal to the consumer looking at a more petite phone.  Despite the Nokia offering a lower resolution of 380 x 640 pixels the AMOLED screen makes up for any slight lack in detail by producing a wonderfully vivid image that exceeds what the higher resolution LCD screen can produce on the Sony Ericsson model.Traditionally both of these manufacturers have produced devices that incorporate great camera features and these two handsets are no different.  The Nokia X7 sports a superb 8 million pixel camera that rival the quality found on any phone currently available.  Not content with just producing an outstanding picture the unit also backs it up with some useful features such as geo tagging and a dual LED flash.  For those who would like to shoot video footage the phone has the ability to record film in High Definition 720P quality.  The Xperia Ray matches the still shot resolution that is offered on the X7 but it does offer a touch focus facility rather than a fixed focus and for this reason the camera feature is slightly more impressive.  The video capture is once again identical to the Nokia model and there is little to choose between the two phones in this department. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is another good addition to the range but the Nokia X7 offers a better all round performance particularly in the screen department where the AMOLED screen works superbly. The Nokia X7 is available now and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is coming soon.
