Located about two hours north-east of the hustle and bustle of London lies Norfolk County, UK. Though its coast is an extremely popular destination for summer tourists, it will not disappoint any winter guests. And the county is a fabulous choice for a weekend escape.

Since the beaches are deserted at this time of year, enjoy a stroll at sunset when the clouds turn a lovely shade of pink and wildlife is getting ready to settle down for the night. Norfolk is a prime bird watching destination as many species make their way to this corner of the UK during the winter migration. Visiting during Christmastime is an idea for those looking for a charming and cozy atmosphere. During Christmas, the towns of Norfolk County set up plenty of activities that will delight people of all ages. Shopping is another big draw to the area since it's chock full of shopping for every taste. 

Bird watching:
Huge flocks of geese migrate to the county of Norfolk every year as well as other bird species and are all a treat to get a glimpse of while on holiday. The Wash, which is the largest tidal estuary in England attracts many wading birds and is one of the most important feeding grounds for this type of bird in the UK. Pink-footed Geese migrate all the way from Iceland to winter in Norfolk County and can be viewed at RSPB Snettisham Nature Reserve. Wading birds aren't the only visitors to Norfolk in the winter. Lucky tourists might also spot birds of prey including the Peregrine Falcon and the Merlin.

Christmastime:
Norfolk boasts many Yuletide festivities, but one that nobody should miss is the UK's largest Christmas show which is called the Thursford Spectacular. Located in the town of Thursford, the show is a dazzling event filled with over 100 dancers clad in festive costumes and singing numerous Christmas Carols. Be sure to book tickets early as they sell out quickly. 

Winter Shopping:
The streets in the town of Holt come alive during the winter with delicate Christmas lights strung around the buildings. This is a traditional market town and is filled with all kinds of specialty shops. It's home to gift shops, antique shops and places to stock up on supplies for arts and crafts. Even more arts and crafts shopping can be found at the Sandringham Christmas Craft fair. For some modern shopping, visit Norwich which is ranked in the top 10 for shopping in the UK. The Mall as well as Chapelfield Shopping Center and Norwich Lanes call it home. There's even a Medival Christmas Market in Norwich and is held at Dragon Hall every year. The building was constructed in 1430 by Robert Toppes, one of the UK's medieval merchants. Not only can you enjoy the shopping, but guests are entitled to guided audio tours and the choice to dress up in medieval garb. 

Overall, Norfolk County is a lovely place to visit any time of year. Its towns are filled with natural wonders as well as historical sites, shopping galore and many Christmas themed activities. Each town has something that will please forweekend breaks away.
