Some airlines are getting creative with seat design to appeal to price motivated travelers.  Airlines realize that it is increasingly vital that every cabin of service and every seat is both profitable and comfortable.

Safety certification changes in the early 1990s forced airlines to tweak seats across their planes.  The use of new materials such as aluminum and titanium has resulted in new design possibilities.  Rising fuel prices has motivated airlines to design seats that are lighter and more comfortable.
