Particularly in April,La Feria de Abril- Visit Spain in April Articles there is a La Feria de Abril de Sevilla, which is one of the most famous festivals in Europe. It is held in the Andalusia, the capital of Seville, Spain and officially begins on Monday at midnight, normally 2 weeks after Semana Santa (Holy Week), and ends with a fireworks display the following Sunday, again, at midnight. In fact the Feria is a bit like the Spanish version of the Oktoberfest. The party is the essence of Andalusian Spain and it is basically a weeklong event packed with Flamenco Parties, Horse shows and a large agricultural show. This year, the dates will be 20-25th April and it's an incredible time of year to be in Seville, just take advantage and experience the Feria!

The fair is not held at the city centre but at a canvas city called Real de la Feria which is erected for the event on the south side of the Puente de la Barqueta Bridge which is built over the Río Guadalquivir. This canvas city is made up of more than a thousand brightly colourful canvas tents called casetas, where all the action is concentrated during the Feria de Abril.

La Feria de Sevilla began in 1847 as a livestock and agriculture fair and over the years evolved into a purely Sevillian tradition. Erected tents lining the current grounds, served to keep businessmen cool beneath the scorching sun, and small food stands slowly began setting up camp at the fairgrounds.

The celebrations are full of life and colour and the costume can be stunning. The men wear traditional Andalucian Wear, Short jackets, boots and chaps whilst the women dress in the traditional Spanish Dresses that are a mass of ruffles in vibrant colours. Nowadays, Seville is considered is the home of flamenco music and culture, which is also known as "Sevillana" because many of the composers and songs are from the city and definitely during the event you are able to see some of the world’s top Flamenco dancers.

Seville and Andalucia are also known throughout the world for the Bull Fighting and Horses. La Maestranza is probably the world’s best know Bullring and from around 6.30pm each night you are able to go along to the Plaza de Toros de Maestranza de Caballeria in central Seville and witness some of the world’s top bull fighters in action. If horses are your thing then you need to be up and out by midday to witness the Paseo de Caballos which is a spectacular procession of wonderfully decorated horses and carriages that are driven by horsemen and women in traditional Flamenco dress.

The Feria de Abril is an extremely joyful event that gives you a valuable insight into the lives and culture of Spain. Just book the flight, car hire Spain, drive to Seville and experience the explosion of light, music, dancing and wine that keeps the capital of Andalusia busy for over a week.
