In the week approaching Diwali, Delhi’s air was rife with festive cheer. And smog. As farmers in adjoining Punjab and Haryana burnt crop stubble, people in Delhi wheezed and coughed, nursed sore throats and suffered grey skies. A recurring nightmare for the past few years, the ‘severe’ level air pollution has been enough to make one want to leave Delhi.

It came as no surprise then that in an online survey conducted by the Economictimes.com, ‘high level of pollution’ was cited as the No.

As some of the well-known tier 2 cities have morphed into metros since 2014, taking the total number of metros to eight—Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune are the new additions to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata—another tier 2 and 3 cities have risen to take their place. From Surat in Gujarat and Indore in Madhya Pradesh to Kochi in Kerala and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, these aspiring young cities are not only the favored destinations for startups and e-commerce retailers—66% of Pri.

Big be in motion: Tech camaraderie Infinera plans to reassign HQ to San Jose from Sunnyvale

SAN JOSE — Infinera, a billion-dollar tech firm, will move its commercial headquarters to San Jose from Sunnyvale, according to the company and public documents.

The company makes network products and services for a telecommunications company, cloud networks, government agencies, and large corporate enterprises.

Infinera has signed a rent for an 82,000-square-foot building in south San Jose at 6373 San Ignacio Ave., public records and listing information posted on the Loopnet site show.

“I am grateful to this leading tech innovator for reducing commute time for Infinera’s San Jose-based employees by bolstering reverse commutes,” San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said. “We look forward to seeing their continued growth in the years ahead.”

Although the company intends to relocate its head offices to San Jose, Infinera intends to keep its manufacturing operations in Sunnyvale, Infinera spokeswoman Anna Vue said.

“Infinera is relocating its corporate headquarters to San Jose in the first half of 2020 because the lease on our current Sunnyvale facilities is expiring and not obtainable for renewal,” Vue said.

The company headquarters are located now at 140 Caspian Court in Sunnyvale, an old industrial building constructed in 1985. The new offices are in a building constructed in 2002

“Infinera is very energized about this move,” Vue said. “The new headquarters building is a modern facility and will be custom-designed to meet the company’s operational needs.

Brokers Chris Shepherd, Vince Scott, and Rob Shannon of CBRE, a commercial real estate firm, represented the landlord in the leasing deal.

During the most recent 12 months that ended in September, Infinera generated $1.25 billion in revenue. That was a big jump from the company’s revenue of $943.4 million during the calendar year of 2018.

The building that Infinera leased is part of Valley Oak Technology Center, an office complex in south San Jose that an affiliate of Beverly Hills-based realty investment and management firm Kennedy Wilson bought in 2018 for $81.2 million.

Infinera’s current Sunnyvale headquarters building on Caspian Court is owned by Google, which in recent years has bought at least 50 properties — primarily older research and development buildings — in northern Sunnyvale.

In some instances, Google has proposed huge new modern office campuses in Sunnyvale for its workforce, along with plans for large housing projects.

Potentially, 410 Infinera employees could work in an office building of the size the company leased, according to commonly accepted office space and employee ratios.
