For some time now the location of a new Cusco airport in Peru has been debated, and in recent months it looks clear that the new airport will either be located in Anta 40 minutes from Cusco or in Chinchero between Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

The current airport which is located in the heart of the city receives a considerable number of national flights per day,New Cusco Airport – Latest News and Developments Articles and government officials are deciding the future of the airport with ambitious plans for a new Cusco airport located outside of the city. It is rumoured that the new airport will not only receive national flights, but will also be a new international gateway into Peru. Meaning that visitors to will be able to access Cusco directly without first transiting the Capital – Lima. Government officials along with civil engineers are carrying out studies for the most suitable location for the airport. In the last few days a technical committee headed by a Chinese engineer carried out suitability studies on the soil composition in the countryside community of Anta. Experts collected detailed data on soil texture, depth, moisture and firmness. On-going analyses of the wind patterns at the site are also being captured, helping to understand the best location for the terminal. The committee of experts also carried out sociological studies of the community of Anta to assess the temperament and general feeling of the locals regarding the project.Speaking  from their offices in Cusco, Peru travel expert Paul Jones commented "At Totally Latin America we think that the plans for the new Cusco airport are positive move forward for tourism in the region. It is sure to be a few more years before flights are diverted for the existing airport, but when finally complete we think that the new project when will help Peru become a premier tourist destination. If the airport receives international flights direct for the US and Europe this will also reduce the amount of flights required to get to the region, allowing us to reduce the price of our tours to Peru."  As the project for the new Cusco airport develops we shall regularly update our news section with the latest information.
