With so much to do, there's something for everyone this summer. Whether you're a local resident or you're planning a visit from outside of the local area, consider using these travel tips and plan your vacation to coincide with one of these exciting events.

Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Festival

No one knows how to party like people in the Caribbean and the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Festival celebrates everything the region has to offer. This year marks the 45th annual event and it takes place July 10 - August 12, 2012. It's the largest cultural event of its type across North America and visitors can enjoy Caribbean food, music, parades, dances and more during the three-week celebration. Some events are free, while others require a ticket so check to see if the event you want to attend is free before just showing up.

SoundClash

SoundClash takes place at Harbourfront Centre and celebrates the very best of local music. Bands send in demo samples of their best work and a combination of jury selection and public voting helps determine which bands get to perform before the awards ceremony. The event is free and takes place July 13-15, 2012.

The Taste of The Danforth

If your Toronto vacations aren't complete without amazing food, you can't miss the Taste of the Danforth. This annual event takes place in the neighborhood of Danforth and visitors can enjoy delicious Greek food with nearly two million other festival attendees. Although Greek and Mediterranean food is the most popular attraction, visitors can also enjoy the neighborhood’s nightlife and shopping. Parking for the festival is very limited since the streets are closed off, so one of the travel tips from organizers is that festival-goers take the subway instead of their own cars. The Taste of the Danforth takes place August 10-12, 2012.

Toronto International Film Festival

Is international film your passion? If so, don't miss the Toronto International Film Festival. Also known as TIFF, this celebration of international movies takes place September 6-16, 2012 and is recognized as the world's most important film festival, after Cannes. In addition to the 10 day celebration in September, TIFF provides year round screenings of contemporary art house films and classics, as well as presenting workshops for children and school groups. Tickets can be purchased individually or as a package.

Travel Tips for Visitors

These events are popular and can become quite crowded, so before going, it's a good idea to map out where you're going to park or if you're going to take public transportation. Also, consider bringing some cash with you, just in case you can't find an ATM and want to buy something at a festival vendor who doesn't accept debit or credit cards. Lastly, designate a meeting point with friends just in case you get separated while at the event.

These are only a few of the many festivals and events for locals and visitors who are on Toronto vacations this summer. If you're planning a visit, try to plan your Toronto vacations so that they coincide with one of these festivals.
