Climate : Climate of Jammu and Kashmir varies from region to region because of its unperallal altitudes from Jammu to the Kashmir valley to Ladakh at high altitude of almost 400 meters to 7000 meters .

 

Jammu region: Summer months are May and June. During Summers ,Jammu city is very hot and can reach up to 40 degree celcius and temperature falls below freezing in winters. The hottest month of the years is June and coldest month is January mercury may fall upto 6 degree celcius. Monsson season is from June to September. By October, conditions are hot and extremely dry.

 

Kashmir Valley region: Climate of Kashmir valley is generally cool in spring and autumn, mild in summer and cold in the winter. Summer is usually mild with little bit of rain and humidity. July is the hottest month and coldest months are December & January. Snowfalls occur in the higher mountain ranges when temperature rises in higher altitude of valley.

 

Ladakh: The climate of Ladakh and Zanskar is extremely dry and cold. Days are typically warm in summer and temperature is around 20 degree celcius. But nights can still be cold with the low humidity and thin air.

 

Best time to visit:  The best time to visit Jammu & Kashmir is during the months of October to March when the weather conditions in Jammu & Kashmir are at their best.

Gulmarg: Gulmarg is located 52 km from Srinagar, regarded one of the best ski resorts of India. It is well connected by road from  Srinagar, covers the distance under 2 hours. Best tourist spot for adventure lovers specially for skiers, season starts from December up to March.

 

Sonmarg: Sonmarg is another stunning hill resort located at a distance of 87 km from Srinagar. It takes 03 hours to reach Sonmarg by car from Srinagar. It is inaccessible during winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanches. Sonmarg can be accessed by road after April to see the snow spread all over the mountain like a white carpet. Ponies are available during summer to access some of the important tourist attractions like Thajiwas glacier. It leads to an important trekking routes to Himalayan lakes such as Gadsar Lake, Krishabsar Lake etc.

 

Pahelgam:  Pahelgam is located at a distance 95 km away from Srianagr. It was once the best shooting place bollywood. It has become now the important tourist attraction of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Pahalgam is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra held every year in the month of July and August.  The Amarnath cave is 6 km away from there. Some of the major tourist attractiosn around Pahelgam are Aru, Chandanwari,Baisaran, Martand and various Mughal Gardens on way to Jammu.
