Waimea Canyon is very large, in fact it's the biggest canyon in the Pacific, measuring an incredible 10 miles in length, a mile across, and almost 3,600 feet deep. This canyon is so spectacular that it's been given the nickname: The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. This huge natural wonder was created thousands if not millions of years ago by the mighty forces of earthquakes, massive flooding rivers and streams.

Waimea Canyon is a majestic site that is sure to please any family member that visits it. There are numerous points or viewing spots around the canyon to see the magnificent views this wonderful site has to offer, and most of these viewing spots offer restroom facilities. There are numerous marked short trails for beginning hikers as well as many miles of major trails for seasoned hikers, that lead down to the canyon bottom. For those of you that do not care to hike to enjoy the scenery of this great site, there is an option that can be as enjoyable or even more so to many, and that is there are helicopter rides available, that will take you above as well as right down into the Waimea Canyon. These helicopter tours offer you the chance to take some amazing videos through the windows, as you fly over the area.
