When you are looking for a deal on a hotel room, there is no better place to start than online. Why it should make a difference when you call the hotel and get a price as opposed to jumping on your computer and getting a price isn't something that is easily understood for most people. They want you to understand that the hotel has complete freedom in what they want to charge for that room. When you sit back and really think about it, why wouldn't they give discounts on rooms that will be sitting empty? If the room was going to sit empty anyway, why not give some discounts to lure guests into booking the room? What do they have to lose? The only thing that they will have invested is the amount of money that it'll cost them to clean that room, and in the big scheme, along with every other room that they have to already clean, and how rapidly they can actually clean the room, that investment is fairly low. So if it is a $200 room that they can book for $100, it seems like a great deal to the person staying in the room and the hotel still makes money off of the transaction because all they have invested in the deal is the cost to clean the room for the next guests, which is minimal. So if you do get a good or even great deal on a room, you should take advantage of it and know that the hotel wouldn't be doing it if they couldn't and that you are still a valuable customer to them. Sure, you could always call the hotel to get an idea of what they are charging for that room during that time period, but then you can do a little investigating yourself on the web. Seek out similarly rated rooms in the same area and do a little price comparison on your own. You will most undoubtedly find something that is to your liking for a great deal less and all it took was a little extra work on the computer. You didn't even have to bust out the yellow pages or call information and waste your time on the telephone calling one hotel after another.
