Partially hydrogenated oils are present in an alarming number of foods that Americans eat everyday.  Start checking the food labels on your weekly groceries, and you will be amazed at how many of them contain these oils.  They are common in cereal, chips, cookies, crackers, frosting, and even some beverages like hot chocolate.  The scary thing is that they pop up in the most unlikely places, even in so called "health foods."  Be sure and check every food label you buy, even if it's not on this list.  Compare the number of foods you eat with hydrogenated oils to the ones without, and you will be amazed at how often we ingest these harmful ingredients.  It is a good idea to keep your daily amount of trans fats below one gram, though ideally it would be zero.  Any food or drink that contains hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils contains trans fat in it, regardless of what the label says.  Companies can claim that a product has 0 grams of trans fat as long as it contains less than .5 grams of trans fat per serving. Therefore, you could eat three servings of a food that allegedly has no trans fat and still be consuming as much as 1.5 grams of it without even realizing it.
