It is way too easy to forget about backing up your blog data. You have decided to make a website that features your witty and interesting blogging and you get carried away submitting new content and looking for ways to get your traffic figures up and in the mean time you are so busy that you forget to back up your blog data.

What could possibly happen? Well let’s look at exactly what can happen and why you should always backup your blog data:

Servers Crash

Technology is fallible. Always remember this. It doesn’t have to belong to you to fail and things like servers,Why You Should Always Backup Your Blog Data Articles no matter how much they cost or what the capacity do on occasion fail. This should be the number one reason to make sure that all the months or years worth of data are safely backed up and stored elsewhere. Too often, too much trust is placed in the host and their capabilities to back up the data when all it takes is one server crash and years of content are gone within seconds

Accounts get hacked

Horrible but true, accounts do get hacked and data stolen or wiped with viruses. Obviously good security will go some lengths to prevent this but see it like this when you make a website. If someone can hack into the CIA computer system, which has happened, then someone damned as sure can hack into your blog or website. By backing up your data you won’t prevent the actual hacking but you will prevent being left with no data if you are hacked.

Theft and Damage

Another disaster for the blog site that isn’t backed up is having the lap top or computer stolen. Making no external back up will result in the likely loss of everything – all your data, all your work gone.  The same applies to damage to your lap top or computer. Even with the best of your abilities you cannot legislate for a coffee spilled onto your computer or a dropped laptop but what you can legislate is backing up the data stored so that if the unthinkable happens and that cup of Joe spills on to your computer then even though there is the financial pain of getting it repaired/replaced, you will not suffer the far worse pain of having to start from scratch again with regards to the actual data.

Other disasters

There are so many things that can go wrong which will be a disaster for the blog with data that isn’t backed up. Power shortages, human errors, virus, and natural disasters the list goes on and on. You cannot legislate for every eventuality but you can take certain actions that will back up your data so when the unexpected happens, you are prepared and all that hard work you have done over the years is not lost in a blink of an eye.

Backing up the data

There are so many ways to back up data that do not cost a single penny. When you make a website and continually update your blog it is easy to forget or get lazy about backing up your data. There are premium rate backing up services that you can employ to ensure all your hard work is backed up but with a little bit of effort and some dedicated time you can back up your blog data and when that disaster strikes you are better prepared than any boy scout could ever be. There are some steps to take like backing up to an external hard drive or source but in truth this is not enough, what if they are stolen, damaged etc? A good way to back up is Backupify which works very well with WordPress and Blogger blogs. It creates a daily back up of your web page and stores them safely and remotely on their servers. It is not only very simple to use but can back up Twitter, Flickr, Gmail and others – all for free!

There really are no excuses not to back up your blog data. For the amount of effort involved (little) and the actual cost (none) compared to what can happen (lose everything) it is absolutely imperative that a backup plan is formulated very early on that will ensure all your hard work is safely stored.
