ALAN CUTLER MCMI FHCIMA
Leadership Speaker, Writer and Trainer
Following training in hospitality management, Alan joined the Royal Air Force, serving in a number of roles and locations at home and overseas. After retiring from the Service as a Squadron Leader in 1989, he spent four years as chef-proprietor in his own restaurant in Norfolk before joining the staff of Aston University. In Birmingham
In 1998 he left the university to set up his own company offering business and staff development within the public sector. The majority of his work involves supporting managers to navigate a path through the period of great change being experienced in that sector. He is an active member of both the Chartered Management Institute and the Professional Speakers’ Association.
His passion is the subject of leadership, on which he writes and speaks extensively – his two books on the subject having been published by Management Books 2000, namely:
‘Leadership Quote, Unquote’
‘One Piece Short of a Jigsaw?’
He believes that people in managerial positions who are aspiring to don the mantle of leadership need a template, both to measure their current leadership skills against and to use as a guide to develop themselves further. Hence, he has developed ‘The Leadership Jigsaw’ – a model of best practice with the six pieces: vision, example, relationships, motivation, empowerment and communications.
His motivational keynote speech, ‘Be the Full Jigsaw! How to solve the leadership puzzle’, challenges managers to measure their leadership style against all six pieces of the Leadership Jigsaw™ and is accompanied by a powerful audio/visual presentation – definitely not Death by PowerPoint!
