Prozac is the trade name for Fluoxetine group of drugs which are used as antidepressants. They belong to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. Prozac is used in the treatment of major depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and panic disorder. Prozac is also used in pediatric depression and is used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder in pediatric population. Prozac is a hugely popular antidepressant and in 2007 it was listed as the third most popular in the United States of America. However, Prozac does have its own share of side effects.
