Living with Janet Long and her husband Richard, is Janet’s 96 year old mother. The near centurion is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and while physically in tremendous shape, she is unable to recognize people around her and becomes easily disoriented. According to Janet, “It is a challenge to be sure. She is lovely and my mother, yet not all there. It so illustrates the challenges of the elderly in District 51 and the role of caretakers like myself who balance the roles of mother, grandmother, and caretaker.”
