Whatever Bush or Gates' plans are for the future is irrelevant. The surge has been presented as the last US battle. Whatever the outcome, after all they have been through, the Iraq people will not stand for any more projects, plans or promises from the US in the future. There are no more chances. The US is gambling away its last reserves of support, trust and belief. When it fails, every section of society will turn against it.
A quick reading of Islamic history tells us that practices of certain forms of banking activities go back as early as 1200 years ago in Baghdad, Damascus etc. However the first modern experiment with Islamic Banking was undertaken in Egypt under cover, without projecting an Islamic image, for fear of being seen as a manifestation of Islamic fundamentalism which was anathema of the political regime.
Senator John McCain’s gibberish concerning the security situation in Baghdad was intended not to show the “big picture” as he claimed, but to throw dust in the eyes of people, just when the real situation has taken a decisive turn for the worse.
