Welsh terrier dogs were originally bred as hunting dogs. However, this native breed of Wales soon rose to become show dogs. Breeders attempted to outdo each other by developing the Welsh terrier dogs' wiry coats and coloration. People often take a Welsh terrier dog as a pet because it is one of the most mild-mannered of terriers.
The bardic arts of song, poetry and storytelling are a strong part of Welsh culture and tradition. And every year in Wales, these arts are celebrated on a grand scale at the National Eisteddfod, a huge week-long festival where musicians, dancers, artists, poets and singers compete through the medium of the Welsh language to win prestigious prizes. In this article we look at the Welsh storytelling tradition, and share some of our favourite Snowdonia myths and legends.
The fortunes of the Welsh language seem to have declined in the first part of the twentieth century, only to recover somewhat later. What exactly is its current status, and what is the outlook for the future?
The red dragon was introduced to Britain during Roman times. It is possible that the Romans learned of the dragon from the Persians. Initially the ‘draco’ was used as a standard by the Roman army but over time it was adopted by the Welsh people as their national flag. It is possibly the oldest national flag in use today.
