Once known as ‘land of villages’,Guest Posting India, today, is rapidly transforming into a world-class country, with better roads, flyovers, bridges, shopping malls, and multi-story commercial & residential properties. Take someone to Gurgaon (who hasn’t been there before), and he/she is sure to get lost amidst all those high rising buildings. The construction industry has truly changed the very face of the city and the rest of the country in all these years. A lot is still in pipeline.

It’s also the ever-increasing housing needs of the urban India that has kept the industry players on their toes. Demand for housing units has far exceeded the supply in the country. The construction activities at this scale have also resulted in an increased demand for building materials, especially cement.

Cement is an essential ingredient for the construction industry. It is made out of limestone, shell, clay mined out of a quarry. This raw material is then crushed, and heated at temperature in excess of 1000 ºC. It is then mixed with gypsum and ground to a fine power to produce cement. So, yes, a lot of activities take place, when it comes to cement production.

Construction industry sans cement is nothing but a palace of cards, which will fall with a gentle blow of air. Cement is the basic ingredient, without which construction industry can’t survive. It’s not surprising that cement production in the country has gone up significantly in all these years. The cement production capacity of the country is currently estimated at about 320 million t, which is likely to reach approximately 345 million t by the end of FY12/13.

Cement production companies provide different cement products to meet the varying needs of its customers, including infrastructure services providers. Some of the products offered by one leading cement production company – Dalmia Cement – include Dalmia 53 Grade, Dalmia 43 Grade, Dalmia PPC, and Dalmia SRPC (for houses); the company also offers cement products for special applications; the products are airstrip cement, oil well cement, and railway sleeper cement. Therefore, choice of a particular cement product depends on its application area.

In all these years since independence, India has progressed by leaps and bounds, but there is still a lot that needs to be done, especially on the infrastructural front. As the players in the industry are pumping in a lot of money and efforts into research and development for better technologies and products, the future is certainly looking bright.
