UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year. However,Guest Posting in the year 2020 due to the pandemic, the December 2020 session was postponed. It is now scheduled to be conducted in May 2021. UGC NET is a national level entrance test that will be organized by NTA. Through the UGC NET exam, the eligibility will be determined for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) & Assistant Professor and for Assistant Professor only. Candidates who will successfully qualify for the test will be considered for recruitment as Assistant Professor or JRF in Indian Universities and Colleges. The application process for the May 2021 session (December 2020 cycle) starts from 2nd February 2021 and will continue till 2nd March 2021.

Every year, the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is conducted to select the eligible candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and the award of Junior Research Fellowship. As per a recent announcement by the HRD Ministry, the examination will now be conducted by the newly formed National Testing Agency (NTA).

UGC NET 2021 Latest Updates –

The online application process for the May 2021 (December 2020 cycle) exam has started on the official website from 2nd February 2021 onwards. The last date for application submission is 2nd March 2021. The computer-based test is scheduled to be held in May 2021.


UGC NET 2021 Notification –

UGC NET 2021 will tentatively be held in the month of June 2021 and in December 2021 through online CBT mode. However, there is no information on the 2021 exam yet. The exam which is being conducted in May 2021 is for the December 2020 cycle. Interested candidates must keep an eye on the official website for further updates.

The May 2021 (December 2020 cycle) exam will be held in two shifts per day - 9:00 AM-12:00 PM and 3:00-6:00 PM. Given below is the time schedule for both the shifts of the UGC NET exam:

UGC NET Syllabus 2021

The University Grants Commission has updated the syllabus for the UGC NET exam and the same has been circulated through a Public Notice uploaded on the official NTA NET website. The notice states,

“The University Grants Commission has updated the syllabus of all NET subjects (including Paper-I on General Awareness). The updated syllabus of UGC-NET (applicable for upcoming exams from June 2019 onwards) is available on UGC-NET website -”

Paper I or General Paper is common for all the candidates. Candidates are first required to appear in Paper I and then in Paper II which is their subject paper.
