He may also be responsible for enforcing law concerning flammable material. The other duties of a fire warden are to take appropriate and effective action if fire occurs. One has to do a course for being a fire marshal. In India there is not much hype about it but simple training and test are conducted to make one eligible for being a fire-man. In the western countries like America, Britain, etc, special fire marshal training courses are designed to give the fire awareness training that every employee requires and then expand it to professional level from being just aware.

This is achieved by monitoring and maintaining the vital fire safety equipment from the fire extinguishers to the fire alarm, to the emergency lighting. Interested students are introduced to questions like who is a fire marshal/warden, his duties, how he assesses and reduces the fire risk, how fire spreads, chemistry of fire, fire prevention, causes of fire, hazard identification, managing people with special needs in the building, evacuation procedure, fire-fighting equipment, and co-operation with emergency services, dangerous substances and flammable materials. Various video clips are demonstrated and live fire training is given on the sets to the students to face the reality of this challenging career.

Fire safety in hotels, guest houses, residential care homes, educational institutes, etc, is a breath-taking task in itself as on these sights large number of people are there but are not employees. So a special fire department is set up in such premises. Their staff is trained according to the need of the specific industry. This will include how to check that guests are accounted for, checking that all rooms are clear, and how to ensure that everyone stays as safe as possible when an evacuation occur.

So being a fire marshal is not children’s play as one has to forget about their life and care about others in danger.
