Getting a routine oil change is one of the most significant procedures that can be done to a vehicle. Every vehicle owner should be aware of this fact, no matter how young or old they may be.

When it comes to maintaining vehicles properly,Getting an Oil Change is a Significant Responsibility Articles teenagers are often given a bad reputation. Although this stereotype is not always true, some don't do much to counteract the negative label.

Imagine a high school student named Jack who decided he was going to take on more responsibility, in order to have more freedom.

"Over the past two years I have been saving up enough money to buy a car," Jack told his parents as they sat together at the dinner table. "I've decided I want to start taking more responsibility for myself, because I think it's time for me to have more freedom."

Jack's dad took a bite of his food, before dropping his fork and slightly pushing back his plate.

"You know son, I understand that you are getting older," said his father. "However, I think you are taking this a little too far. But, since you keep insisting on having your freedom, you can have it."

Not attempting to hide his anger, Jack's father got up and went to his room. Jack's mother ran after him.

"Honey, I think you are taking this a little too seriously," she said. "Give him a break. He's just sharing his opinion and I think we should lay off of him a little."

"Whatever you say," he said.

After a month passed, Jack finally purchased his car and he was extremely excited about it. Because his father decided to let him have the adult freedom he desired, he didn't know how to properly take care of it. So, much of his money and time was spent fixing the car's exterior. So, when it was time for him to get an oil change, he totally neglected the procedure. He poured all of his money from his part-time job into making sure his car looked pleasing to all of his friends.

"Son, I know you wanted us to stay out of things, but have you gotten an oil change yet?" asked his mother.

"Mom, I appreciate your concern, but there are much more important things to worry about than an oil change," he said.

Nearly two more months went by and Jack was on his way to pick up his date for the homecoming dance. When he finally pulled up to his date's home, he stopped the car, got out and went inside to meet her family.

When they got into the vehicle to be on their way, the car wouldn't start. He was extremely embarrassed.

"I'm so sorry, I don't know what's going on," he told his date as he continued to try to force the vehicle to start, to no avail.

After about ten minutes, his date became fed up.

"I'm going to just ask my dad to bring us," she said as she got out of the car and went inside.

Jack later found out that his car wouldn't start because of extreme engine corrosion, due to the lack of the very thing he thought insignificant: an oil change.
