Check the Local Better Business Bureau - Your local better business bureau allows citizens to post commendations and complaints about local transmission repair shops. Read the complaints with a discerning mind, but if they seem legitimate (especially if there are several), you probably should avoid that shop.
Choose an ASE Certified Mechanic - The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) tests and certifies individual mechanics. Just because one mechanic in the shop is ASE certified, does not mean they all are certified. You'll want to be sure the one working on your car has earned his certification.
