The sources said, Dawood men on save Balwa mission, IB alerts CBI Articles the CBI headquarters has alerted its Mumbai office and necessary precautions have been taken.

The underworld plans come close on the heels of the CBI probing the national security angle in the controversial allotment of 2G licences.

Balwa is alleged to have links with the Dawood gang and the Union Home Ministry has reportedly raised concerns over transfer of Swan Telecom's shares to UAE-based Etisalat that has telecom operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the CBI has questioned managing director of Kalaignar TV Sharad Kumar and promoter of Cineyug, Karim Morani in connection with the transfer of `214 crore to the DMK-owned channel.

The investigators also confronted the duo with one another to cross examine them.
The agency is probing the alleged links between Balwa and DMK leaders and suspects the money was transferred to channel as a quid pro quo of favours granted by former Telecom Minister A Raja.

Kumar was grilled for nearly six hours for transfer of funds. Two hours later, Morani was also grilled. CBI sought clarifications from the two since the agency found discrepancies in their versions on reasons for transfer of money at the behest of Balwa, the sources said.

"I was called to cross-verify some issues... I have provided all the information sought by them. I am going back to Chennai tonight," Kumar said.
Last week, a team of CBI officials had gone to Chennai to question DMK MP and Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and his wife Dayalu Ammal in the 2G probe.

Ammal has a majority stake in the channel with 60 per cent shares and remaining 40 per cent is shared equally by Kumar and Kanimozhi.
The CBI will file a status report on the investigation so far into the 2G scam case to the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
