Fire Alarm Inspection: One of the Many Things Firefighters Do

The Fire Prevention Division is a group of firefighters who are the ones that go around to buildings and do a fire alarm inspection and other kinds of building checks. They do all of these things to make sure that the buildings are following codes. They go to businesses, schools, and daycare centers to do a fire alarm inspection and to do presentations about arson and safety. Whenever people visit the station, they will also give those people tours. They will usually show everyone what all of the equipment does and then will sometimes even put on their gear and clothing to show what they wear while responding to a blaze.

Within the organization, there is usually a Chief Prevention Officer. Below that person there are the other Prevention Officers. The groups will all have their own insignias and may even have their own vehicle. FIRECAN is a national Canadian organization of prevention people. The whole agency was founded in 1976 and they work to educate all of Canada about these different issues. They will actually work with the government at all levels, work with the firefighters themselves, and partner with the federal government in Canada to promote protection and education about conflagrations. They even have their own website. On that site, people can find many different safety educational materials. Everything is free of charge. Some of the topics discussed are cooking precautions, babysitters guide, fire extinguishers, smoke alarm, farm safety, and escape plans.

October 3rd through the 9th is actually protection week in Canada. During this week, all different organizations and professionals from across the entire country come together along with many students and teachers. There is usually a lot of songs and entertainment pertaining to safety, which attempts to make the whole education process fun for everyone involved. There are also a lot of different guest speakers for the whole week. For children that participate in contests, they get prizes. One company in Alberta, Canada is a main safety educator. Throughout the year they host many different events, including conferences and skill competitions. They also have a lot of different presentations that are available to be viewed on their website aifpa.org. The topics of the presentations vary widely from awareness and planning to general tips to safety products. This association was founded in 1989.

As is obvious, a fire alarm inspection is very important for any home, business, or school. More than that, it is important to continue to educate oneself on the different dangers. For instance, many people don't realize that attempting to fry a turkey on Thanksgiving is one of the main reasons that blazes start on Thanksgiving. The reason for this is because many people attempt to just through the still frozen turkey right into the very hot oil. Well oil and water do not mix, and when dropped into a vat of oil, the turkey with a lot of water still on it and in it, causes the oil to go everywhere and start a blaze.
