Uniqueness will not always help one to become successful nor do uniqueness help one to become a leader in corporate.  This cardinal management message only the tallest animal on the land – the Giraffe conveys to the corporate.

To reach the leaves and shoots in the tall trees only,If you have a giraffe... the corporate problem Articles it is believed that giraffe has evolved with long neck.  To easily catch the leaves and shoots, further, the giraffe also have very long flexible tongue.  If anyone compares giraffe with other herbivores like zebra, wild buffalo or deer, they outscore in their uniqueness as no other herbivore has such an absolute and exclusive uniqueness or adaptation.

Remember, when the giraffe can easily reach the tall trees, has to struggle a lot if it wants to reach the grass beneath its own foot.  They have to stretch their long front legs away, have to bend the neck and only then can access the grass on the ground.  Even to drink water also, they will have do the above.  Most often, giraffe become an easy victim to the predator, especially the lion, only when they come to water hole to drink water.

Remember, that the people who talk high ideas and draw ambitious achievement plans, find it hard to reach or connect to the ground truth that exists in the corporate.  It is not that they are not cared to understand the ground reality, but cannot reach there as they are adapted only to give big ideas and plans.

The corporate should be wise in not expecting them to touch the ground reality and speak.  The corporate leaders should connect the ideas given by the ‘giraffes’ with the ground reality.   Most corporate due to their utter ignorance, use ‘giraffe leaders’ to link the two extremes in the corporate.  Most of the people at the lower lever complain about such ‘giraffes’ as they seldom understand their problems or never listen to them.  They only talk about high ideas and the importance of achieving them.

These corporate giraffes have long necks and hence can only go upward and see things and cannot bend down to see the facts and will find it hard to do so.  This is the above why the people below them itself the giraffes don’t care, but they are always close to the people in the top management.

Instead of blaming such giraffes, the corporate leaders and the HR function must know how to and where to employ such people.  While recruiting people, uniqueness of people should although be the key criteria of selection, but should also know the negative effects of such uniqueness.

Uniqueness should be used only to achieve unique task and not beyond that.
