AC Installation - Career Changes In This Economy

Unemployment has hit many Americans in the last couple years. Those that have been hit the hardest have had to make some major life changes. One positive life change that many Americans have undergone is a career change. Many have gone back to school to study trade and technical jobs like welding, electrical work and AC installation. These jobs are perpetually in demand and can keep very skilled individuals quite busy.

Welding is a great second career move, especially if you like creating things and working with your hands. Welding as a career can also be extremely lucrative. If you are willing to travel, there are jobs waiting through out the United States and world. Right now, many welding jobs are centered on oil and gas production and refineries. 

Welders are often employed in teams and will spend much of their time working on projects like creating large fuel holding containers. Some teams travel together while other teams are formed on the job site with individuals from several different companies. A welder generally is employed until a project is finished and then moves on to another project. Welders can also be employed offshore working on general maintenance and repair of oilrigs.

Electrical work is also an ideal career move for someone also with an interest in working with his or her hands. Electricians generally work alone on projects like rewiring a business or home. Electricians can expect to keep fairly busy working regular business hours. An electrical specialist needs to have an interest and understanding of motors, machines and basic mathematics. Most electricians need a basic understanding of engineering. The most talented can go on to be lead electricians on job sites.

Finally AC installation is an excellent career move for someone, like electricians, that has a basic interest in how things work. Like welders, you will be working with your hands creating and repairing air conditioning unit and ventilation systems. The trade is relatively lucrative during the busy spring and summer months, while business can slow down during fall and winter. Though, most stay busy year round balancing their summer work with repairs and maintenance during the winter.

Most trade and technical specialists go to a specific school to learn the trade, gain an apprenticeship position and eventually qualify for a certificate and in some cases, a license. Schooling for any of the abovementioned trades can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the specializations acquired. Schools can be associated with trade unions, community colleges or even local electrical, hvac or welding contractors.

AC installation, like welding, electrical work and other trade or technical jobs, can be a great choice for someone looking to change careers. Working with your hands can be very satisfying as a career. Look for openings in local technical colleges to see if there is an AC installation program available in your area.
