Electricians can expect to keep fairly busy working regular business hours. An electrical specialist needs to have an interest and understanding of motors, machines and basic mathematics. Most electricians need a basic understanding of engineering. The most talented can go on to be lead electricians on job sites.

The trade is relatively lucrative during the busy spring and summer months, while business can slow down during fall and winter. Most trade and technical specialists go to a specific school to learn the trade, gain an apprenticeship position and eventually qualify for a certificate and in some cases, a license. Schooling for any of the abovementioned trades can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the specializations acquired. Schools can be associated with trade unions, community colleges or even local electrical, hvac or welding contractors.
