Typically,Dynamics GP Support: Great Plains Consultant Notes Articles you have to do GP consultant selection personally based on this person experience level and years of GP consulting, knowledge of your industry, technical expertise, ability to support potentially custom add-ons and Dynamics GP Dexterity programming projects.  In international environment, or when your organization is planning international expansion - your GP consultant should be able to pick the right overseas support partner and appropriate ERP application for your subsidiary.  In this small publication we would like to draw Great Plains support options and scenarios:

1.       Microsoft Dynamics GP annual support program - this is what you should consider to stay current with.  Your Microsoft Dynamics GP Reseller is Microsoft Business Solution Partner, and Microsoft requires your participation in GP annual enhancement program.  Annual Enhancement cost is typically below 20% of your GP software price list.  There are several plans available, and they allow you to have access to new version registration keys and good discount on Microsoft Business Solution support cases.  All Dynamics GP VARs, Consulting Partners and ISVs will recommend you to stay current with MBS annual support plan, however this is up to you to decide

2.       If you do not have support plan from MBS directly.  Especially in the time of recession this problem might be very actual.  If you decide to save on extending annual support, this decision means that you will not have reg key for the new versions (or otherwise you will have to pay reenrollment penalty).  If you are trying to be on the tight budget - the best option is to find reasonably priced Great Plains Consultant.  Dynamics GP Consultant typically support you on hourly base and as needed

3.       Local versus Nationwide support.  This question is about your comfort level.  If you prefer shake hand trust level establishment way, and you are ready to pay extra bucks to local folks, this is up to you.  However, remote support might be more reliable and cost beneficial.  GP remote support is typically provided via Web Sessions, Remote Desktop or VPN connections.  Remote consultant can do virtually all the support routines: troubleshoot your system, install Dynamics GP Server and User Workstation, upgrade to new version, or service pack, enter new registration key, train users, program and deploy new customization or integration, help you with ecommerce and EDI to GP

4.       International Dynamics GP Support scenarios.  Here you are facing the specifics of the Corporate ERP localizations.  GP is localized for USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, some English speaking South East Asian countries: India, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, plus for Spanish Speaking Latin America.  Localization is important in your decision as it is covering not only local language translation, but also local tax code compliance and tax reporting.  To give you good example - in Brazil we do not recommend you to implement Great Plains as it is not localize, instead if you subsidiary is small or mid-size - we recommend SAP Business One implementation and its integration to Dynamics GP on the level of reporting or even transactions consolidation to GP General Ledger

5.       FRx Reports Support.  FRx Reports Design is preferred for Financial Reporting: Balance Sheet, P&L, Statement of Cash Flow, and for Consolidated Reporting

6.       Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac (Macintosh) OS.  We support customers, who are on these archaic ERP platforms.  We have access to GPA consolidated support database, plus our consultant had implemented GPA in the past for numerous customers in USA.  We should also be able to move your Great Plains Accounting files from your old Windows NT or Novell server to Windows 2003, XP or Vista.  If you are on Mac OS, please call us, as we have some technology concerns
