Entrepreneurs who are effective in running their businesses from home invest their time wisely. You can learn from their wisdom and apply these strategies for increased productivity and success in your own home based business.

1. Designate set times for working and make every effort to minimize interruptions and distractions. This is harder for some (like mothers of young children) than others. But the hours you devote to your business will not yield much if you are erratic with your schedule. Work at home moms usually work when children are asleep,Success in Your Own Home Based Business - Ways to Increase Your Productivity Articles at school, or in someone else's care. Phone calls, T.V. and the internet all provide avenues of distraction and you will have to guard against being drawn into them. Anyone who works at home soon realizes that things and people will crowd into your time unless you make every effort to keep your work time intact.

2. Get dressed and ready to work. Your attitude toward working at home will be influenced by how you start your day. While lounging around in your pajamas may seem a comfortable option, it will likely lead to more lounging and random activities. At the end of the day you will have more results to show for your time if you have readied yourself mentally and physically to stay on task and treat your job as a real one.

3. "Clock in" and note your hours worked each day. If you keep a record of how many hours you are working, you can better evaluate how you and your business are performing. You may need to increase your hours if you are not earning enough revenue.

4. Set your tasks in priority order and delegate if necessary. When making your to do list, schedule the most important things first, but leave time for some mid-level tasks so that you don't fall behind. You may need to enlist temporary help from someone if you find yourself with a paralyzing backlog.

A person must realize that running a business from home is not for the faint of heart. If anything, you have to be more organized, motivated, and disciplined than the average person. When you take your work seriously, however, you may be able to enjoy success in your own home based business. And once you are reaching some of your goals, you (and your family) will be better positioned to appreciate and benefit from flexibility of schedule that led you to consider working at home in the first place.
