Miranda House – Ushering the Age of Women

Miranda House, the name that is largely associated with women’s education in India, was the dream child of Sir Maurice Gwyer, the then Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi. It was founded in 1948 by Sir Maurice Gwyer and its foundation stone was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on March 7, 1948. It is a college that boasts of a rich background and eventful past being one of first few women’s colleges to be opened in the independent India. Since its establishment, the college has performed the function of imparting quality education to women in the country and has successfully produced many women who have excelled in their fields like Anuradha Kapoor, Minisha Lamba, Syeda Saiyidain Hameed and many more.

• Campus

Miranda House’s campus is one of the most beautifully designed and well maintained campuses in the entire university. With a hatful of infrastructural facilities to offer, the college is truly worth its place in the north campus of the university. The college has a fully automated library with an audio visual section and a Digital Resource centre with advanced computers. It has one of the biggest collections of college books, newspapers, magazines in the University. In addition to this the college has various spacious special lecture halls which are used produce the future female leaders of the country. The college also has one of a kind Botany and Zoology Science Museums which is maintained which is maintained by the Life Science Department which an extensive collection of preserved specimens of flora and fauna, slides and other material. Apart from this, the college also has an Auditorium which provides a platform to the budding artists to showcase their talent. With so many facilities, no wonder its name pops up when we think of well maintained multi-facility colleges.

• Cut-offs

Miranda House is one of the premier colleges of the country and this fact is somewhat reflected in its cut-off. With cut-offs going up to 97.5 for B.A. (H) Economics, it ensures that people with high caliber, potential and intelligence join the college and avail the exquisite opportunities that the college has to offer.

• Courses

A plethora of courses form the curriculum of the college. It offers B.A. (H) in Economics and in various languages, B.sc (H) as well as B.Sc (P) and B.El.Ed. These courses are taught by highly educated professors. The college ensures that it leaves no stone unturned when it comes to women’s education.
