Agricultural Engineering is one of the commonly taught engineering subjects in the polytechnic institution in Nigeria. This same programme is taught as Agricultural engineering Technology by some schools.

 

At the time of writing this post about fifty two (52) polytechnics offered the programme in Nigeria. Agricultural Engineering is also taught in the university but while the university institution award one of the Bachelor of Science (BSc),Top 4 Polytechnics to Study Agricultural Engineering in Nigeria Articles Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) honour degree, the polytechnics award National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural Engineering.

The programme prepares students for a job in agricultural machinery manufacturing companies, food processing companies, consultancy firm and as an entrepreneur in the agricultural sector.  

 

Listed below are the top four polytechnics where Agricultural Engineering is taught in Nigeria. 

 

Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti

Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti is one of the oldest polytechnics in Nigeria, having been established in 1977. Despite this, the institution which had been around for more than forty (40) years just started teaching Agricultural Technology in 2021 accepting applications to National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programme. 

 

The institution design it's Agricultural Technology to raise technicians and technologist who are able to design plan for crop, fish and animal production and in the deployment of engineering and technology for the improve production of farm products. 

 

Kwara State Polytechnic

Kwara State Polytechnic, one of the numerous higher institutions of learning in Kwara State was established in 1973 by the military administration of Col. Bamgboye. 

The Department of Agricultural Technology was established thirty-six years after in 2009 and since then it has produced highly skilled manpower for the country agricultural sector as technicians, technologists and as entrepreneurs. 

 

Imo State Polytechnic:t

Imo State boost just two polytechnics and both are teaching agricultural engineering but the programme at Imo State Polytechnic is taught at Ikeduru campus, one of the four campuses where the institution is operating from. 

 

Training students to become qualified agricultural technicians or technologists at Imo State Polytechnic is done with the aid od state of art facilities, qualified lectures, well equipped laboratories and libraries, classroom instructions and students industrial training programmes. 

 

Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State:

Adamawa is one of the states that constitute North Central of Nigeria. The state parade just two polytechnics each of which are owned by the state and the federal government of Nigeria. 

 

The agricultural technology at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi is taught at the School of Agricultural Science and Technology. The department is one of the three (3) departments that the school operates, giving quality tutorial using highly experienced tutors, conducive classrooms, laboratories practical and field works. 

 

Federal Polytechnic, Mubi Department of Agricultural Technology is home to thousands of students from far and near including from Mali, Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic. 

 

Agricultural Technology or Agricultural Engineering at each of the institution mentioned above are accredited by the Federal Ministry of Education and the NBTE, therefore a qualification earned from any of the school could be used to secure a job here in Nigeria or anywhere abroad and/or for the further of education.
