Yan is a world-renowned artist who became known for his “epic-sized” portraits of the late Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong, and actor Bruce Lee.

Speaking about bringing Yan’s artworks to Doha, QMA chief executive Mansoor al-Khater said: “‘Painting the History’ is themed around portraits of political and cultural leading figures from the Arab world and beyond.

“For this reason, Yan Pei-Ming’s art connects well with our local audience and we are looking forward to see how the public will interact with the exhibition.”

The first section of the exhibition is dedicated to modern Arab history, with 150 portraits in watercolour of influential Arab world figures, from politics to literature and art, including Lebanese singer Fairuz, late Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
