With their bold colors and sharp compositions,Franck Sastre: Experiments in Color, Texture and Line Articles Franck Sastre’s paintings make a powerful and direct play for the viewer’s attention. Starting with a palette based in red and black, Sastre builds vivid, multi-colored images that incorporate a wide range of techniques, textures and materials. Influenced by such artists as Dali, Picasso and Basquiat, he captures the intensity found in their paintings, and gives it a contemporary spin. “I like to express new sensations of color that can give emotion to a painting,” he says, and by bringing bright yellows, greens and blues into the mix, he animates each image, creating an appealing sense of spontaneity.

Sastre paints in oils, acrylics and ink, on surfaces that include canvas and wood as well as cardboard and carton board, resulting in works that add a strong physical presence to his precise style. In his images, cleanly executed lines and a reliance on basic geometric shapes form a solid backdrop on which a variety of experiments—from realistic figures to adventurous abstractions—are seen. Sastre lives and works in the Spanish city of Vigo.

About the Exhibition

Enigmatic Realms: Endless Worlds

Agora Gallery is pleased to present Enigmatic Realms, a showcase of eight contemporary artists holding a mirror up to the people and places that surround them. Hailing from Pakistan, Switzerland, Argentina, and everywhere in between, the artists on display cover many different worlds with their images. There is the seasoned fashion designer who currently creates fashion illustrations in the form of larger-than-life metal sculptures, each abstracted female figure a sensitive exploration of the body. There is the artist who only uses organic materials from pigment to tool, with the resulting images as wonderfully evocative and detailed as any traditional painting. Some works depict the human body as neon bouquets of colorful shapes; some as flattened, stained-glass-like jewels; some as figures in a carefully crafted allegory. Some artists create whole scenes for us while others show hyperrealistic bodies against blurry, atmospheric depths. There are farms and cities, kitchens and offices. Enigmatic Realms teaches us that for every pair of eyes there is a different world.
