NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of NJ artist Larry Greenberg in From Here to There. Agora Gallery opens its doors for public viewing of this exhibition on March 8th with a reception on Thursday March 10th, from 6pm to 8pm. Admission is free.
Tackling the dark recesses of horror and perception, Larry Greenberg's evocative paintings present a moody, yet cathartic, look into humanity. While taking cues from the emotive figures of Picasso's Blue Period, Greenberg turns his work towards more surrealistic environs, playing with anatomy to illustrate moments of tension and drama. In the same vein, his figures retain an hint of understated theatricality. This aspect of the painter's work is emphasized in his characteristic erasure of his figures, leaving only shells or skins of figures.
For paintings that speak toward humanity's internal demons and emotional intensity, there is an impressive sense of delicacy in Greenberg's work. From the use of muted colors, to the washed out textures, to the lines and brushwork, a softness contrasts his weighty thematic images. This uniformity isn't always a comfort, but rather lends itself to the ethereal quality in his works. The subjects in these paintings are always at risk of disappearing into the background, an effect that emphasizes the struggle against disappearing beneath internal turmoil.

About the Exhibition
A Journey of Epic Proportions: “From Here to There”
Seventeen artists collaborate in the exhibition From Here to There to bring a New York audience on a magnificent journey of self-discovery, expression, and realization. Buzzing in energy, color, form, and texture, the works on display hint at real worlds while obscuring just enough to direct the viewer’s experience and effectively control the conversation. Abstractions flourish across canvas, while figures bend and transform before the viewers’ eyes. Varying on the scale of fiction and reality, the artworks featured tell a unique story of humanity, nature, and society in inventive ways. Most of all, however, they tell a story of movement and change: making this an exhibition that truly takes you from one state of mind to somewhere completely new and exciting.
