Linda Rybak does detailed work. That’s who she is as an artist.
Since the 71-year-old local painter began working with watercolors nearly 30 years ago, she became a perfectionist as can be seen in her paintings on display at Primary Care Partners, the Working Artists Gallery & Studio and The Art Center.

Rybak paints commission pieces or whatever she finds beautiful and has found a way to make watercolor paint work better for her: She mixes other materials with the watercolor.

In fact, she prefers to call herself a water media painter because she sometimes mixes thicker acrylic paints or milk-based casein to enhance the watercolor.

“Acrylics (and casein) allow for corrections,” Rybak said. “Watercolors won’t.”
Rybak’s interest in painting began years ago, but it wasn’t until she and her husband moved to Grand Junction in 1972 that she began to take art seriously.
After several classes at then-Mesa College and with the Brush & Palette Club, Rybak received helpful tips that set her on her artistic path.
Among the lessons she learned were the best type of paper and brushes to use as well as how to make a wash that comes out evenly.
