Susan Marx's wildly colorful paintings are joyous translations of image into hue. Marx paints what nature leaves with her with an emphasis on paring down visual elements to concentrate on "color,Susan Marx: A conversation made from colors Articles light, shape, and energy" - subjects which entice and engage the viewer, drawing them into a fresh and beautiful world. Marx describes her style as Abstract Impressionism, combining the light of the Impressionists, the brilliant color of the Fauves, and the energy of the Abstract Expressionists to create shapes out of quick, assertive paint-filled strokes. Colors are not blended and the brushstroke length varies widely; she paints spontaneously with energy and emotion. Marx draws in color, using fast drying acrylics so that she can quickly capture her reaction to her "radical amazement at the visual world".

Exhibited widely throughout the United States, Marx’s work can be found in private collections in the United States and abroad. Susan Marx lives in Orange, New Jersey.

About the Exhibition

Sensorial Realities

Agora Gallery's new group exhibition Sensorial Realities offers nine different voyages into new and challenging worlds. Among the paintings, mixed-media works, ceramics, and sculptures included, there are stimulating explorations of landscape, narrative, abstraction, and portraiture. One painter creates outdoor scenes out of a jungle of thick, unbroken brushstrokes that pulse with the loud colors of summer in bloom. Another builds quietly intense psychological scenes out of isolated figures. A third toggles between sensual realism and an abstraction that depends simply on the perspective zooming in and out. With such thoughtful technical experimentation and flawless execution, Sensorial Realities showcases artists operating at their smartest and most provocative level.
