After a grueling 37-hour journey with only a couple of short naps, Stewart and I finally arrived at Atwood Lake, Ohio. We had planned to get there two days before the concerts began to relax and explore the area. Little did we know, we would spend a significant portion of our time at Walmart and a gas station named Sheetz due to the lack of phone service.

Why would anyone take 2 1/2 weeks off work without pay and spend over $2,000 to hang out with people and listen to music? For me, the answer is simple: the USA Festival Tour. This event is meticulously planned, starting from the end of the previous year's festival. The anticipation, the savings, and the preparation all lead up to an unforgettable experience.

Meeting Stewart

Stewart and I met last year on our way to the Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, Illinois. Stewart, who hails from Brisbane, Australia, was on his second trip to Cornerstone. We spent most of the festival talking and ministering to people, addressing their needs, and sharing the love of Christ. Every morning, I would have coffee, read the Word, and discuss it with Stewart. This routine attracted others, leading to enriching conversations that helped us grow spiritually.

The Road Trip

Nancy, my wife, and I picked up a rental car and awaited Stewart's arrival at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Navigating DFW was a challenge, but we eventually found Stewart, who was exhausted from his 13-hour flight from Australia and a 2-hour flight from Los Angeles to Dallas. Our plan was simple: pick up Stewart, have a relaxing dinner, and then hit the road for a 20-hour trip to Ohio. However, with three toddlers in tow, dinner was anything but relaxing.

Our 20-hour trip turned into 24 hours due to frequent stops, but the excitement kept us going. The closer we got to our destination, the more our tiredness faded away. We arrived at Atwood Lake, ready to explore and enjoy the area before the concerts began.

Our first morning at Atwood Lake greeted us with a major thunderstorm, complete with lightning, crashing thunder, and torrential rain. Despite the weather, most of our belongings stayed dry, thanks to years of experience in festival camping. This was my first year at the Alive Festival but my 16th year at Cornerstone.
