Firstly, decide where you will be building the fort. In general you can use any room in your home, but if there will be a big sleepover in the house, then I'd say the living room is the best. Or your kid's bedroom if there will be just a couple of kids sleeping over. Alternatively, if you are planning a fun night with the kid, then you can build it your bedroom.
Now it is time to establish the foundations. Use chairs, tables and cushions. The table is, perhaps, the best starting point and then you can position the chairs and the cushions in whatever position you and your kids want.
After that, get a couple of blankets and place them over the table, the chairs and the cushions. The blankets will be the roof of the fort, so use pins to clip the edges of the blanket in place. It is also a good idea to use additional blankets and lay them on the floor unless the room is covered with solid carpets. Also, consider adding few more cushions and pillows when nap time comes.
Now your fort is ready. But before you let the kids inside, you can add the final touches. Get colouring books and drawing papers, pencils and crayons, and encourage the kids to draw pictures related to forts, knights, wizards, and anything else that will spark their imagination. Then you can attach the pictures around the walls of the fort.
Finally, don't forget to have some snacks, a flashlight and holiday lights which can play the role of the stars in the sky and any other items which can make the night more fun and memorable.
