Acid Reflux Remedies - Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Treatment

Acid Reflux is a common problem but a serious health disorder. Natural remedies can relieve this problem before it can do serious damage.

Most of the time acid reflux is due to combination of improper gas regulation in the stomach and weak sphincter present at the end of the esophagus responsible for disallowing the stomach acid to regurgitate in the esophagus.

Frequent occurrence of acid reflux can cause damage to the esophagus lining and soft tissues which creates swallowing problem. It is the biggest cause of esophageal cancer. Person suffering with this problem may have bitter taste in mouth, dry coughing, sleep disturbance, chest pain and breathing problem. Person suffering with acid reflux may also have heartburn for 2-3 days as the build up of acid in the stomach causes burning sensation in the chest.

Ginger is an herb as well as a spice which is commonly used in food and it can be an excellent remedy for this problem and excess gas formation apart from many other issues related to digestive system. Increased use of ginger in the food or in salad can relieve the excess acid and also its reflux. Keeping a piece of ginger in mouth and sucking its juice can help in curing any scars in esophagus caused due to acid reflux. It also helps in strengthening the sphincter muscles to avoid acid coming up from stomach.

Two teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with half a glass of water provides immediate relief from acid reflux. Another very good remedy to avoid this is to mix a banana with a pinch of cardamom powder and sugar, mix them to form a paste and eat it once in a day; it is very effective if eaten half an hour before lunch. Drinking carrot juice also helps in regulating gas and controlling excess acid to avoid episodes of acid reflux. Though it may sound wrong, but lemon juice can be very helpful in treating acid reflux as it contains good acids which help the body in digesting the bad acid present and regurgitating in the esophagus. A glass full of water mixed with the juice of one lemon and half teaspoon of rock salt can help in curing this problem immediately.

Like other medical conditions it is also not caused by one single reason, bad eating habits and sleeping pattern can also contribute in promoting this problem even in a relatively healthy digestive system. Lack of physical activity, habit of lying down or going to bed immediately after having meal or eating too much spicy and greasy foods are some other reasons for acid reflux and correcting these mistakes are remedies in itself. 

Lack of water consumption, too much tea or coffee intake and alcohol also creates excess acid in the stomach which can promote acid reflux at later stages. Never staying hungry but eating light and ensuring sufficient amount of water consumption during the day, if possible, including milk in the diet, are effective remedies for treating this problem.
