Plastic surgery is a viable option for people who are unhappy with some aspect of their appearance. Plastic surgery can help change how you look,Get the Facts Before You Get Surgery Articles how you perceive yourself, and even make you look younger. There are a lot of reasons people opt to change their appearance, and cosmetic surgery is not limited to any set gender, age or ethnic group.
If you're considering cosmetic surgery, there are a lot of different things to take into consideration. First you need decide if you're good candidate for surgery. You should be in good overall health for the selected procedure, a non-smoker, and have a realistic expectation about your recovery time, the cost for surgery, and what to expect during the procedure itself.
Since cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure and it is not done generally for health reasons, you will probably end up footing the bill, even if you do have health insurance. There are some exceptions to this of course. If you are recovering from breast cancer for example, and need to have breast implants to restore your breast after a mastectomy, insurance companies will generally pay for this. If you need to have rhinoplasty to help correct a breathing problem, insurance companies don't consider this cosmetic as much as they consider it a health issue.
But for most people cosmetic surgery is something they have to pay for out-of-pocket. So when you plan your surgery, you need to plan for everything. Don't forget the small things like the cost for the surgery center, the anesthesiologist fee, the doctor’s fee for the procedure itself and your time off work. If you need to hire a CNA to take care of you for a couple days while you recover, you're going to have to budget for this also. If you have small children to take care of you won’t be in any condition to care for them depending on what surgery you have for at least a week, so you will need to have somebody come in to take care of your kids. Not to mention the down time you're going to have from work unless you have an office job, you probably will be out of commission for at least two weeks realistically. And even if you have an office job you need to plan to spend at least 3 to 4 days recovering at home from surgery before you go back to work.
Make sure you talk to your doctor about the risk factors that are involved in any surgical procedure even plastic surgery. And keep in mind most complications occur after the surgery not during it and it generally involve the risk of blood clots, or infection.
This is why it's important that you understand your aftercare instructions and follow them. Preventing blood clots and infection is something you can do.
If you do your research ahead of time, fully understand what you're undertaking, and plan your finances accordingly you should be happy with your surgical results.
