When you have a debilitating disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, or chronic pain from an injury, using the stairs can be absolutely excruciating. Not only can the pain of walking up the stairs be unbearable, it can also prove to be quite unsafe. This situation can be doubly frustrating to deal with if your home is more than one level, often times stranding a person away from their bedroom because of their inability to make it up the stairs and into their bedrooms.

When you have a debilitating disease,Give your Knees a Break with a Stair Lift Articles such as rheumatoid arthritis, or chronic pain from an injury, using the stairs can be absolutely excruciating. Not only can the pain of walking up the stairs be unbearable, it can also prove to be quite unsafe, were you to lose your balance and fall. This situation can be doubly frustrating to deal with if your home is more than one level, often times stranding a person away from their bedroom because of their inability to make it up the stairs and into their bedrooms. Your predicament can be helped, however with the installation of a stair lift in your home.

A chair lift for your stairs is basically a sitting escalator. A track is installed up against the wall of your staircase which then has a chair attached to it. Once you sit on the chair and buckle up (safety first!), with a touch of the button, you are slowly brought upstairs or downstairs. Installation can usually be done within a day or two, with the exception if you have a curved stairwell or a strangely configured stair arrangement (such as corners, etc.). If you do have a 2 level staircase with corners, generally 2 chairs would be installed at that time. The chairs on a stair lift are generally narrower than a standard chair and most can hold up to 300 pounds. The lifts are bolted directly onto the wall or staircase with safety brackets attached every 3-4 feet. Most chairs run by a power cord plugged into a standard home outlet, but some are battery operated. If the power goes out, be aware that the lift for your stairs will not work, unless it is battery operated.

To make sure that your chair lift looks good in your house, most companies offer a wide range of fabrics and colors, including soft, supple leather for easy cleaning. Chair and track colors can also be selectively chosen to appeal your homes décor. To allow for maximum stair space, the seat cushion of your stair lift can be easily folded upright. You can improve your quality of life and get back to your normal every day routines in your home with the help and assistance of a chair lift for your stairs.
