In the northern hemisphere throughout the summer, when the sun’s at its highest level, people are at the highest risk of developing a sunburn. We spend hours out on the beach perfecting our tans and pay the price for it if we’re not careful enough to protect ourselves. Even a few minutes for fair skinned individuals can be enough to get a hot pink luminance across our hides.

What can we do to both prevent sunburns and what can be applied to heal them when they occur? This article will outline some mild sunburn remedies that can be used for people who suffer from them.

1. SPF lotion and protective clothing are ideal mild sunburn remedies.

The best remedy for sunburns is to prevent them from even happening in the first place. If you know you’re planning to go outside for over 10 minutes,Mild Sunburn Remedies Articles it is essential that you apply a sunscreen that is at least 30 SPF. Even if it is cloudy, you need to apply the lotion to prevent a mild sunburn from appearing. The damaging UV rays from the sun can still go through the clouds and get to your skin if it is exposed.

Protective clothing and hats are also preventative mild sunburn remedies. You can wear light clothing to keep cool, but if you choose not to apply sunscreen to your arms or legs, then make sure you put on pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Furthermore, wear a hat to shield your scalp from sunburn as well. There is nothing worse than getting your head burnt and getting heatstroke afterwards – it can really put you out for a long time, so be sure to protect your head.

2. Use popular mild sunburn remedies.

The most effective mild sunburn remedies can be found right around the corner at your local neighborhood pharmacy. Aloe vera gel is probably the most common natural product you can apply directly to your skin and it is great for your skin even if you aren’t suffering from a burn. If you are, it will help cool the skin and heal the damage done. Apply aloe vera as liberally as desired to the affected areas.

Other natural products that you can apply to your sunburn are chamomile lotion and vitamin E gel. Chamomile lotion has similar cooling properties, as aloe and vitamin E will repair skin tissue. You can apply them separately or alternate between the different types of lotion to get the benefits of them all. These are all natural products that are proven to repair your skin and keep it healthy.

3. Try alternative homemade remedies.

If you’d like to experiment, there are plenty of other mild sunburn remedies that you can try. Sliced cucumber can be applied to the damaged areas of your skin to help ease the pain and reduce swelling. Leave the vegetable on your skin for about 20 minutes while you’re watching your favorite sitcom on TV. If you have burnt your eyelids, this technique works particularly well – but in that case you’ll have to just listen to the TV because it’s difficult to see through your cucumber slices!

Other great home remedies are: crushed aspirin masks, vinegar baths, mint baths and even potato masks. Cool mashed potatoes can draw the heat out from your skin and relieve redness instantaneously. Just let it sit there for about 20 to 30 minutes and you can see the great results!
