Did you know that low-grade precancerous lesions of the prostate gland occur in up to nine percent of 20 year-old men? If that didn't catch your attention,Resveratrol and Prostate Cancer - Halt Precancerous Lesions From Developing Into Prostate Cancer Now Articles how about this? Men can pretty much plan on getting prostate cancer if they live long enough.

A brief description of five common symptoms for this disease (which might only indicate an enlarged prostate) is:

  1. Passing urine more frequently, especially at night
  2. Pain or difficulty when passing urine
  3. Trouble starting and stopping the flow
  4. Frequent pain in lower back, hips, and upper thighs
  5. The feeling of not emptying your bladder

You should be aware of the common causes of this disease. Studies and history bring to light these five factors that appear to cause or promote prostate cancer:

  1. Animal derived foods tend to promote this disease.
  2. One study shows that consuming three or more glasses of milk per day more than doubles the rate of occurrence.
  3. There may be a link to hormones implanted in American cattle because in France and Switzerland where cattle hormone implants are not allowed the rate of prostate cancer is 50 percent less than in the U.S.
  4. In Italy and Greece where men commonly drink red wine high in resveratrol polyphenolic compounds, this disease rate is 75 percent less than in the U.S.
  5. Common carcinogens that cause cancer are radiation and smoking.

Now let's explore some ideas that are known to be effective for prevention. I'm listing six steps that can help to prevent or slow the progression of this disease:

  1. Plant foods are known to protect your body against this disease. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
  2. Eat a diet rich in resveratrol polyphenolic compounds (such as red grapes, pomegranates, and blueberries). As you can see, this is difficult to attain because this compound is not found in many foods, however you can get sufficient amounts of it in supplements.
  3. Restrict consumption of fatty and sugary foods.
  4. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day (no soda or energy drinks, a 20 oz. soda can contain up to 22 teaspoons of sugar).
  5. Tea and coffee does not count as water intake, but green tea contains many beneficial antioxidant compounds that promote good health.
  6. Reduce alcohol consumption to only an occasional drink.

It's time to discuss the relationship between resveratrol and prostate cancer. Is there a resveratrol-prostate cancer relationship? I believe there is and here are my reasons:

  1. One study with mice indicated that the polyphenolic compounds did not stop early-stage prostate cancer but greatly slowed its development into the advanced disease.
  2. Another study showed that these compounds greatly reduced cell proliferation, showing a chemo-preventative response.
  3. Abnormal cells become more susceptible to radiation and chemo drugs, while healthy cells become less sensitive to them.
  4. The natural compounds found in red grapes protect the DNA from damage and are as effective in early stage as they are in late stage disease.
  5. They inhibit cell growth in many stages of carcinogenesis.
  6. A resveratrol-prostate cancer study showed that diseased cells could be killed if the compound was injected directly into them.

In conclusion, there are several important points to remember. First and foremost is that prostate disease likely starts to develop via lesions in men as young as 20 years of age.

I have provided evidence showing that a resveratrol and prostate cancer prevention relationship exists. Prevention is by far the best method of control. Treatments can leave men impotent, with urinary problems, impaired sexual function, and weak bones. You want surgery to be your last resort.

Don't wait for symptoms to occur. Start eating a healthful diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water, get regular exercise, and take a nutritional supplement containing resveratrol.
